SAVED......... a rare piece of Cheyenne's railroad history
the opportunity arose last year to rescue and move to safe storage a historic and rare 1913 Union Pacific CA caboose. We had been looking for a eminently suitable piece of rolling stock for our planned railroad displays downtown and we been offered this wonderful and evocative caboose at no cost.
CA Caboose 2516 was built for the Union Pacific by the Standard Car Co. in October 1913 and retired by Union Pacific in March 1947. It was retired too early to receive the Armor yellow scheme and still retains its boxcar red paint. it was purchased by married couple and moved east of Cheyenne to become the couples first home in 1948!
Although the caboose has been generously donated by the owner funds are needed to restore the caboose in time for its 100th anniversary in 2013. You can help by sending donations to the Cheyenne Depot Museum and marking it for the Caboose 2515 fund. Our goal is to restore 2516 and move it downtown to be displayed.
