Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Saturday, May 3


This event features authentic Mexican food, Hispanic bands, dancers, and craft
vendors in the Cheyenne Depot lobby and on the Depot Plaza.


Cheyenne Depot Garden Festival

Saturday, May 17

This annual event to be held on Saturday, May 17th from 9am to 4pm. The Master Gardeners and the Cheyenne Depot Museum are partnering to host this free-to-the-public event. The Master Gardeners’ Plant Sale will be held in the Depot Plaza on Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm with specials throughout the day. Hundreds of annuals, perennials, vegetables and garden art pieces will be offered for sale. Garden Bargains of gently used garden tools, books, magazines and other treasures will also be available. Vendors will be available in the Depot lobby and on the Depot Plaza. Free lectures will be held in the Depot lobby throughout the day. Sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority.


Cheyenne Depot Museum’s Depot Days

Saturday - Monday , May 23 - 26

This railroad celebration is scheduled for the 2008 Memorial Day Weekend – May 23, 24, 25 and 26th. Cheyenne Depot Days is an annual event celebrating Cheyenne’s railroad history and the Union Pacific Steam Operation located in the Union Pacific Main Yard in Cheyenne. With over 140 years of railroad history, Cheyenne's development as a community paralleled the growth of the railroad. Cheyenne Depot Days will help to educate area families about our railroad history and is sponsored by Holiday Inn Cheyenne and the Downtown Development Authority.

Friday, May 23 - The Cheyenne Depot Museum is inviting Union Pacific employees (current and retired) and Union Pacific Historical Society to come in and see the Cheyenne Depot Museum for free. The Rocky Mountain Division Train Collectors Association will be displaying an outstanding model railroad in the lobby of the Cheyenne Depot from 9:00am to 7:00pm. This model has been placed on display all over the country. A special temporary exhibit will be in the lobby describing the connection between the military and the railroad. Wilbur Craig’s works will be on display in the Depot lobby, as one of America’s most unique and talented artists, creating a distinct niche in the art world. He makes “Wooden Art In Motion”. Wilbur magically transforms planks of wood into miniature trains, tractors, airplanes, bulldozers, and much more; all have moving parts and can be disassembled. Vendors will be selling their wares in the Cheyenne Depot lobby from 8:00am to 7:00pm. A FREE CONCERT for the community will be held on the Cheyenne Depot Plaza from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. This concert is kicking off Cheyenne Depot Days and events on the Depot Plaza.

Saturday, May 24th ~ The Hobo Breakfast will be served to the community from 7:30am to 9:00am. Biscuits and gravy, coffee, juice and milk will be served. Adults are $3.00 and Children 12 and under are $1.50. The Memorial Day Parade begins at 9:30am from 17 th and Carey and travels down Capitol Avenue . The Lions' Train will be offering family rides after the parade until 12noon. A military equipment display will be exhibited on the Cheyenne Depot Plaza . This will be Dollar Day at the Cheyenne Depot Museum. Individuals are encouraged to tour the museum for $1. The Rocky Mountain Division Train Collectors Association will continue to exhibit their model railroad display from 9:00am to 5:00pm in the Cheyenne Depot lobby, along with vendors in the lobby from 8:00am to 7:00pm.

Union Pacific Steam Crew is offering a free open house to the 1931 Round House from 10am to 5pm. The Union Pacific Mini Train will be giving family rides during this time, and the UP Souvenir Car will be open. Several pieces of heritage equipment will be on display both in and out of the Round House. In addition, the Sherman Hills Railroad Club will be displaying and operating their H O Gauge model railroad. Directions to get to the Round House open house will be available at the Depot during Cheyenne Depot Days.

A Railroad Vendor Show will be on display with model railroad items for sale in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Cheyenne. Holiday Inn Cheyenne is the primary sponsor of Cheyenne Depot Days. The public is invited to come and learn about model railroading and the different types of size of model railroads at the Railroad Vendor Show. The Railroad Vendor Show will be open from 9am to 5pm.

Sunday, May 25th ~ The Rocky Mountain Division Train Collectors Association will continue to exhibit their model railroad display from 11:00am to 5:00pm in the Cheyenne Depot lobby, along with vendors in the lobby from 11:00am to 5:00pm. Union Pacific Steam Crew will continue the open house of the Round House from 12noon to 5pm.

Monday, May 26th ~ The Rocky Mountain Division Train Collectors Association will continue to exhibit their model railroad display from 9:00am to 3:00pm in the Cheyenne Depot lobby, along with vendors in the lobby from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

Families and vendors will be selling their wares on the Cheyenne Depot Plaza to have a big town-sized flea market. Don’t miss all the bargains that will be on the Depot Plaza from 9am to 5pm. Hosted by the Cheyenne Depot Museum.

On Friday night, the Wyoming Brewers Festival offers a Tasters Party from 5:00pm to 12midnight, followed by the Brewers Festival with live entertainment on Saturday from 5:00pm to 12midnight.

Celtic Music & Arts Festival

Friday -Sunday, June 27 - 29

There will be kilts, bagpipes, and plenty of Scottish and Irish dancers in downtown Cheyenne during the 3rd annual Celtic Musical Arts Festival on June 27 through June 29, 2008 at the Cheyenne Depot Plaza. Admission to all festival events on the plaza is free. Event sponsors include the City of Cheyenne, the Cheyenne Depot Museum, Shamrock Audio, the Historic Plains Hotel, the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority, the Cheyenne Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Ayres Associates and WINHealth Partners. The festival will feature a variety of Celtic music, traditional Irish and Scottish dancing, bagpipers, recitation of the works of Scottish poet Robert Burns, a Scotch tasting and workshops on Celtic instruments and dancing. Inside the Depot lobby, various clans will have information to share with visitors about their Scottish heritage, while retail vendors will offer a variety of Celtic-related items. Authentic Scottish food --- including Scotch eggs and haggis --- will be available for purchase, along with American food. Headline bands performing traditional and contemporary Irish and Scottish music will cap each day’s activities.

Friday night’s activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle’s Fridays on the Plaza concert, featuring the Indulgers, a Celtic rock band from Colorado that has rocked the Depot Plaza for several years. Immediately following will be Gobs O’Phun, a trio known as much for its comedy as its repertoire of traditional, foot-stomping Irish and Scottish music. Gobs O’Phun will break at 9:00 for an authentic Calling of the Clans on the plaza. Following the calling, the group will wrap up the evening with more music and fun.

On Saturday, festival activities will begin at 10 a.m. with a mass pipe band procession down Capitol Avenue to the Depot Plaza. Saturday’s headliners begin at 4 p.m. with Cheyenne’s own Musical Chairs. Known for their versatility, the band’s members frequently swap “chairs” or instruments and play a wide assortment of music. They will play Irish and Scottish folk music, as well as contemporary Celtic rock. At 8 p.m. the Prodigals, a four-piece group known as one of the most talented bands on the East-Coast Irish scene, will perform. Its members grew up largely in Ireland; their music is both traditional and rock.

Sunday morning will begin with a Kirking (blessing) of the Tartans at 10 a.m. and events will continue until 5 p.m. Sunday’s headliners include Skean Dubh, a Denver-based band that uses a wide variety of musical instruments – including Irish bagpipes, fiddle, guitar, accordion, djembe, doumbek and didgeridoo – to produce traditional melodies and foot-stomping tunes.


4th of July Celebration

This event is host a family-friendly, patriotic event that features a concert on the Depot Plaza on Thursday, July 3rd. On Friday, July 4th, activities include a Children’s Parade, Children’s Game Time, a Patriotic Costume Contest and community entertainment.

2008 Steam Train Excursion

The Cheyenne Depot Museum is pleased to announce a 2008 Cheyenne Depot Train Excursion!   The Cheyenne Depot Museum, the Sherman Hill Railroad Club and the Union Pacific Steam Crew are teaming up to offer another train ride from Denver’s Union Station to Cheenne. A photography run will be held during the excursion.

Cheyenne Depot Wine Festival

Tuesday - Sunday, August 14 - 17

The Wine Festival features a Wine Dinner at the Historic Plains Hotel on Thursday, a Vintage & Vine Reception & Auction in the Cheyenne Depot on Friday night and a Wine & Dine Trolley Tour to historic Cheyenne homes on Saturday. The Wine & Dine Trolley Tour is a wine and cheese pairing at several historic homes in Cheyenne.

Midas auto Service Center's Casino Night at the Depot

Friday, September 19

Attendees enjoy food, refreshments and games of chance in the lobby of the Cheyenne Depot. Texas Hold ‘Em, poker, black jack, roulette and craps are played. Winners bid for gift packages and weekend gaming getaways.


Oktoberfest

October 17-18

This event features authentic German food, German bands and dancers. On Friday night, the Willkommen Reception will be held in the lobby of the Cheyenne Depot. On Saturday, German foods, beers, entertainment, craft and specialty vendors will be offered.


Lighting of Cheyenne's Christmas Tree & Plaza

Saturday, November 22

This event features a Gingerbread Contest, singing Christmas carols in the Plaza and lighting the numerous Plaza decorations and the Cheyenne’s downtown Christmas tree.


Christkindlemarkt/Santa Claus Visits the Depot/Adult & Children’s Teas

Friday - Sunday , November 28 - 30

Vendors will be in the lobby selling Christmas crafts and gifts, jewelry, art and other
novelties. A visit from Santa Claus the Cheyenne Depot lobby, Tea Among the Trees and a Children’s Tea are scheduled.
